Installing ESXi 6 with unsupported drivers

So I have had to rebuild my lab again and thought I would document the process. I would also highlight that you should never do this in production.

Pre Reqs:

  1. Download ESXi Customizer PS Script.
  3. Download ESXi 6 place with the script
  4. Download the driver you need from below and place in a subdir
  6. Set our execution policy to unrestricted so we can run the ESXi Customizer PS Script.

We need to create a ISO with our drivers that were downloaded:

Run the script with the command .\ESXi-Customizer-PS-v2.4.ps1 -izip {Location of ESXI} -pkgDir {Location of drivers}.

I had my esxi zip in the same dir, and the drivers in a subdir called pkg, so it looked like:

 .\ESXi-Customizer-PS-v2.4.ps1 -izip .\ -pkgDir ‘C:\temp\Custom ESXi\pkg\’

I then have the ISO file with ESXi 6.0 and my needed drivers, I use Rufus to convert the ISO into a bootable USB drive as my lab has no CD Drive, this is as simple as selecting ISO Image from the highlighted drop down and selecting my ISO file I created above.

Then we boot from USB and install ESXi.
